Wyoming via CR59
An infinite out and back. Starting from The Forks, take Cherokee Park to CR59. Unbeknownst to us at the time, we had crossed into Wyoming. It went from forest to an enormous grassy and treeless valley at 8,000 feet. We did 57.5 miles total with 5883 feet of elevation gain.
The road kept going but we did not. We also hit up some single track off of Cherokee Park on the way back in which was mostly pretty good and connects back to Cherokee Park a bit further down.
The Stats:
Distance: 58 miles
Paved: 15%
Climbing: 5800 feet
Notes: I would consider skipping Red Feather Lakes Rd which has a high speed limit and no shoulder and opt for a brief stretch on 287, which has a wide shoulder to start and finish. There is also a wildlife parking area up Cherokee Park Rd that you could park at as well.
And as always, when in the mountains, come prepared for bad weather that rolls in in a moment’s notice.
Refills: No services except at The Forks. You’d need to pack a filter. There are a couple creeks.
Tires: The WTB Vulpine is a perfect tire for this route. There is always something new and washed out after winter or loose from the dry summer.
